UK inbound access number types

Posted in Solutions on 12th May 2023

In the UK, there are different types of inbound numbers that serve specific purposes.

IV Response have a vast allocation of all these numbering types ready for your business or call campaign to use.

Here are the commonly used inbound number types and their corresponding uses:

Geographic Numbers (01 and 02):

These are local area numbers with the following formats:

01 Numbers:

Typically used for specific geographic areas in the UK, such as London (020), Birmingham (0121), Manchester (0161), etc. These numbers provide a local presence and are widely used by businesses operating in those areas.

02 Numbers:

Like 01 numbers, these are geographic numbers for various regions across the UK. They are often used by businesses to establish a local presence and facilitate local customer interactions.

Non-geographic Numbers:

03 Numbers:

These are non-geographic numbers that are charged at the same rate as geographic numbers (usually included in call packages) and are often used for customer service or helpline numbers. They offer a national presence and can be called from anywhere in the UK.

0800 Numbers:

Freephone numbers that are free for callers to dial. These numbers are often used by businesses to provide a freephone option for customer inquiries, support lines, or sales hotlines.

084 and 087 Numbers:

These are non-geographic numbers with varying service charges to callers. They were traditionally used for customer support lines or helplines, but their usage has declined due to changes in regulations and consumer preferences.

09 Numbers:

Premium rate numbers that are associated with higher call charges, often used for services like entertainment hotlines, voting lines, or psychic services. The cost of calling these numbers is typically higher than standard rates.

Mobile Numbers:

07 Numbers: Mobile phone numbers that can be used by businesses or individuals. These numbers are not tied to any specific geographic area and provide mobility and flexibility.

Universal International Freephone Numbers (UIFN):

These are international toll-free numbers that allow callers from multiple countries to reach your business without incurring any charges. UIFN numbers require registration and are used by businesses with an international presence or customer base.

It is important to note that the specific usage of these numbers may vary between businesses, and regulatory requirements may govern their usage in certain industries or campaigns. Businesses should consider their communication needs, target audience, and cost implications when choosing the appropriate inbound number type for their operations. IV Response have many years’ experience in setting up these numbers and can advise which number type will suit your needs best.
